Development and implementation of ten half-day training programmes on the topic of "needs-based room design"

The individual needs, habits and abilities of residents of a retirement and care centre are central to the design of the rooms and their own work processes. In a workshop in the Living Lab and the test rooms of the SCDH, the employees of the Bruggwiesen retirement and care home exchange views on aspects of needs-based room design - for residents and staff.

The Bruggwiesen retirement and care centre offers older people a range of residential options tailored to their individual needs. The centre's services focus on individual people with their life stories and needs. The offer includes long-term stays, decentralised residential groups, a home for people with dementia, a day centre, acute and transitional care, relief for family carers, trial living and care and support for people with mental illness.

In spring 2025, the entire workforce will embark on a staggered three-day training programme in eight sessions, visiting various institutions and covering topics relating to everyday working life.

As part of the trip, the employees also visit the SCDH, focussing on the topic of "needs-based room design". The aims of the afternoon at SCDH are:

  • Employees are given the opportunity to discuss various aspects of the topic of "space and room design" in nursing, with a focus on palliative care
  • They get to know different perspectives on the room (the patient/resident room) through dialogue
  • You develop a more conscious perception of the effect of the room and corresponding design options
  • The self-confidence regarding their individual design possibilities in the room and their own way of working is strengthened

Themes

  • Exchange experiences on the interior design needs of residents, relatives, carers and various employees in retirement/nursing homes (private and communal areas, culturally sensitive aspects of interior design)
  • Atmosphere in the room, individual needs, cosiness, feel-good factors (e.g. use of materials, colours, light, acoustics)
  • Hygiene, privacy
  • Discussion of simple, improvised solutions in everyday care, low-threshold creative interventions
  • Dealing with patients in the room / outside space
