Remote Operations Project

Remote Operations Project

The future of remote care and remote surgery in operating theatres

The academic collaboration between the Central Saint Martins’ Masters course “MA Narrative Environment” and the SCDH investigated the future of remote care and remote surgery in operating theatres. The projects dealt with the various forms of distance and visualised scenarios with a view to patient care, technology, workplace safety, well-being and the collaborative processes in the operating theatre setting. The students also researched past, present and future trends in telemedicine and developed a glossary on distance to facilitate the categorisation of the different phases of digital healthcare.

In early November 2024, a small group of four students and the lecturers Beth Shepherd und Nico Alexandroff travelled to Nidau near Biel/Bienne to give a mid-project presentation at the SCDH. Stephanie Sherman, the leader of the MA course, and the 12 other students working on the project joined in online from London. The final presentation was held in late November. The joint publication of the results is planned.
