Colour and material concept for a new assisted living unit
Stiftung Dessaules offers assisted living units. The SCDH is developing a design concept for a new apartment, with the involvement of all user groups.
Stiftung Dessaules is a Bern-based foundation that was established in 1985. The foundation offers assisted living units with a homely, family atmosphere at three locations for people with care needs from Biel and the surrounding area. A new unit for 13 persons is being built in the street Schwanengasse; the building’s interior has not yet been completed. The SCDH was commissioned to develop a colour and material concept aimed at optimising daily care routines and affording better orientation as well as creating a living atmosphere that promotes health. The concept will be based on evidence-based studies and best practices as well as the needs of user groups.
Within the project, the SCDH provides a mix of workshops and simulations of colours and materials along with more in-depth consulting during implementation. The methodology for the development of the concept involves the following:
- Analysis of recent studies and well-established approaches in the relevant research field.
- Integration of caregivers in the development of the concept
- Colour proposals based on colour standards (colour system)
- Detailed development of all use zones (digital concept)
- Presentation of the effect of the colours with mood boards, , 3D/2D sketches and physical samples of the materials
- Evaluation of the selection of colours and materials in the space by all users
