Symposium 2024

Symposium 2024

Members of the International Advisory Board and the Scientific Board, the SCDH team and invited experts and guests came together between July 8 and 10, 2024 for the third SCDH Symposium. The focus was on the development of remote care and the integration of telemedicine technologies in hospitals or the patient's home environment.

The public keynote speeches by Dr. Nirit Pilosof, Prof. Dr. Paola Pierri and Dr. Ellen Taylor as well as the subsequent panel discussion kicked off the 2024 SCDH Symposium on July 8. These were followed by live simulations of various remote care scenarios on the extended reality simulation area and in the realistic test rooms of the SCDH Living Lab, which were continued on July 9. The public lecture by Dr. med. Elisa Heising and the panel discussion with Dr. med. Elisa Heising, Kristian Schneider, Georgette Jenelten, Flavia Wasserfallen and Prof. Dr. Maya Zumstein-Shaha concluded the symposium.

The presentations, simulations and subsequent plenary discussions provided insights into the interaction between remote supply technologies and the built environment as well as their impact on the human experience. The SCDH's goal now is to use the findings of the symposium to develop recommendations and guidelines that will inform decision-makers, healthcare managers, architects, designers, developers of new technologies and medical staff and enable them to realize the full potential of remote care models.

We would like to thank every speaker for their insightful presentations and all of the participants for their interest and the stimulating discussions. We would like to express our particular thanks to Dr. Nirit Pilosof and Prof. Dr. Deane Harder, who helped us prepare and run the symposium with great passion and enthusiasm.

“This year's SCDH Symposium focuses on the interaction between technology and the built environment. We have decided to investigate how 'remote care' can be designed to create trust. To this end, we simulated four scenarios with very different uses of technology in the hospital and in the patient's home environment.”

“The symposium here at the SCDH offers an incredible opportunity to bring together experts from the fields of design and health and to use their collective knowledge and cognitive ability to truly train thought leadership.”

Prof. Dr. Deane Harder
