Accessible Tour of Switzerland
Participatory and iterative development of an inclusive booking process
The aim is to optimally tailor the procedure for booking the “Accessible Tour of Switzerland” to the needs of customers with disabilities. To this end, the non-profit Claire & George Stiftung and the SCDH are collaborating to develop aspects of the user experience on the website through a participative and research-based approach as part of a project of the Swiss Innovation Agency “innovation cheque” grant programme.
Claire & George is a private non-profit foundation based in Bern. Since its establishment in 2013, Claire & George has been committed to making individual holidays accessible to everyone – irrespective of age or disability. The foundation serves both as a centre of excellence for accessible holidays and as a platform connecting customers, the hotel sector and providers of care and support services.
The foundation is currently working with a range of Swiss tourism destinations to develop a new offering, the “Accessible Tour of Switzerland”, which is modelled on the “Grand Tour of Switzerland”. Each “Accessible Tour of Switzerland” will be made up of the traveller’s selection from a range of offerings already available in the tourist regions which customers will be able to book as an individualised package via the Claire & George website from spring 2025. The idea is to optimise the steps in the booking procedure to enable customers with disabilities of various kinds to complete the full procedure with the greatest possible degree of autonomy.
The purpose of Claire & George’s collaboration with the SCDH, which takes the form of a preliminary project funded by an “innovation cheque” grant, is the research-based support of the development of the UX aspects of the booking procedure. Participative workshops will be held to examine how they can set up the online booking procedure in a way that enables customers with disabilities of various kinds to get through the procedure with the greatest degree of autonomy. The project will also seek to identify tools of interest with respect to integration into the online booking procedure that can facilitate decision-making in the booking procedure.
